MP Dinesh Gunawardena stated that the Speaker should refrain from placing his signature on the Supplementary Estimate of Rs. 55 million until the prevailing issues about it are resolved.
He said if the Speaker endorsed the Supplementary Estimate before the four member committee submits the report, it would be illegal, adding that a court case could be filed against the Speaker then.
“The Parliamentary Associations over the world contacted us asking whether the vote had been cheated. This is a disgrace to our Parliament. Parliamentary democracy was under threat and the distortion of the actual result of the vote belittled the validity of our Parliament. The Government can bring in a substantive motion and correct the mistake, but the Government is not ready to do so” he said.
